My brain is a jumble, but I am happy. My kids have a thousand different needs and wants and plans and no understanding of how much work I have to do to manage those thousand needs, wants, and plans, but they are also the coolest, kindest people I know. My house is a tangle of dirty dishes, laundry piles, furniture in weird places, and paint supplies, but I also have the most delicious butter tarts sitting on the counter and a beautiful green view out my window.
It’s a good day, the sun is shining, and my calendar is full of music-making and community. A little too crammed for my comfort, but only with the best kind of stuff.
Glass half full, glass half empty, or glass so full it’s sloshing over the rim.
I’ll take it all.

Featured Podcast - Make Like a Mother
I am so glad I sometimes have the audacity to do things just because I think they’ll be fun. This podcast was something I needed, for me, and damn has it brought me so much joy! Even though I was the one conducting these interviews, and even though I listened to each of them several times for editing purposes, and then read and edited each transcript several times, I am STILL enjoying listening to them again now that they’re out!
You can listen to episode four of Make Like a Mother with Katie Hoogendam (aka MERKAT) now! You can find all episodes anywhere you listen to podcasts, or you can watch on YouTube, or read the transcribed interviews - and see photos of the artists’ home studios - on Substack.
It’s an over-booked, audacious, joyful, scrambled life, and I sure love it.
